How to use a WD Black² Dual Drive in a Mac system

The WD Black² Dual Drive will be able to work on a Mac system as long as the following requirements are met:

  • Mac System supports a 9.5mm (2.5") drive. Please refer to Apple system documentation for information.
    Note:
    Please follow Apple guidelines on proper hard drive replacement procedure to avoid breaching the system's warranty.

  • Mac OSX version must be 10.9.X (Mavericks) or 10.10.X (Yosemite). Please look into Apple System Information to find out the current Mac OSX version (see below for instructions). Refer to Apple website or Apple documentation for instructions on how to update to Mac OSX v10.9.X (Mavericks), or v10.10.X (Yosemite).


  • WD Black2 Firmware must be v01.01A02. Please refer to WD Black2 Installation Guide for instructions on how to upgrade WD Black2 Firmware.


  • WD Black2 storage setup in Mac OSX is configured either as a Dual volume, or as Fusion drive configuration. Please refer to WD Black2 Mac installation guide for instructions on how to initialize and configure WD Black2 Dual Drive for use as a Dual Drive or as a Fusion Drive.
