Theft of high technology products is increasing due to the attractive resale
value of these products in the black (or secondary) market. Western Digital,
along with our competitors and customers, have recently experienced a number
of thefts throughout the world. Hard drives are a targeted commodity for both
sophisticated and unsophisticated thieves.
Part of the value of purchasing a Western Digital hard drive from a reputable
dealer/supplier at the fair market price is that the consumer has a high degree
of assurance that they are purchasing a quality product which has been handled
properly.
Individuals purchasing Western Digital hard drives at below market prices and/or
from questionable sellers must be aware that these deals come with inherent
risks and that they may bear the risk and the responsibility for such purchase.
If an individual encounters problems with the product and it is determined that
the hard drive has been stolen, it is the individual's responsibility to bring
these problems to the attention of the person or organization from whom they
purchased the product and to receive compensation from that entity.
Western
Digital does not provide service warranty on stolen hard drives.
WD shall have no liability for any Product returned if WD determines that the
Product was stolen from WD or that the asserted defect
- is not present.
- cannot reasonably be rectified because of damage occurring before WD receives the Product, or
- is attributable to misuse, improper installation, alteration (including removing or obliterating labels and opening or removing external covers (unless authorized to do so by Western Digital or an authorized service center)), accident or mishandling while in the possession of someone other than WD.
We strongly encourage you to know your dealer/supplier when buying computer
products.
Should any individual have information that could assist law enforcement or
Western Digital Corporation in identifying the perpetrators of these crimes,
please contact our Corporate Security Department at (949) 672-6171.
