Instructions

To update the WD software: From WD Server

1. When an update is available for your WD Sentinel Ultra-compact Storage Plus Server, a message SOFTWARE UPDATE AVAILABLE will display on the LCD screen.
2. Login to the WD Sentinel DS5100/DS6100 Storage Server with the administrator credential and open the Dashboard.
3. Select Monitor and select Software Update tab.
4. Under Check for Updates, select the Check for Updates button.
5. If new software is available, a message will display the available version.
6. Select the Download & Install button and the new software will download automatically
7. A Software Update message will appear with a request to shutdown the Dashboard and reboot the server.
8. Click Proceed to continue and the Dashboard will shutdown
9. The update will continue and the progress is visible on the LCD screen. The update can take between 6 to 10 minutes to complete and the server will reboot several times.
10. Upon completion of the update, the LCD will return with a message SOFTWARE UPDATE COMPLETE. To clear this message from the LCD, go to the Alert Viewer and select Ignore the alert or Delete the alert. The server is ready for use.

To update the WD software: Using USB Drive

1. Download the Software Update (sentinel_firmware_x_x_xx_xxx.zip) file from WD Customer Support (http://support.wdc.com) to a desire location on the PC.
2. Obtain a USB Drive (2GB or larger) and insert it into a USB port on the PC.
3. Copy the sentinel_firmware_x_x_xx_xxx.zip file on to the root directory of the USB Drive
4. Safely eject the USB Drive from the PC and insert it into one of the USB 3.0 port in the rear of the WD Sentinel Storage Server
5. Login to the WD Sentinel DS5100/DS6100 Ultra-compact Storage Plus Server with an administrator credential and open the Dashboard.
6. Select Monitor and select Software Update.
7. Under Check for Updates, select the Update from file button.
8. A Software Update message will appear with a request to shutdown the Dashboard and reboot the server.
9. Click Proceed to continue and Windows Explorer will open.
10. Select the USB Drive previously inserted to the WD Sentinel DS5100/DS6100 Ultracompact Storage Plus Server
11. Select the Software Update file (sentinel_firmware_xx_xx_xxx.zip) then click Open
12. The update process will begin and the progress is visible on the LCD screen. The update can take between 6 to 10 minutes to complete and the server will reboot several times.
13. Upon completion of the update, the LCD will return with a message SOFTWARE UPDATE COMPLETE. To clear this message from the LCD, go to the Alert Viewer and select Ignore the alert or Delete the alert. The server is ready for use.
