IMPORTANT: Any time you alter the master boot record there is a small risk of damaging the data on your drive. For this reason, Western Digital recommends that you backup the important data on your drive before adding or removing a BIOS overlay software.

To remove Dynamic Drive Overlay from your hard drive please perform the following steps:

  1. Create a Data Lifeguard Tools 11 for DOS (CD) disk. For more information on how to create the disk please see Answer ID 23321: RETIRED: Data Lifeguard: Create Tools 11 for DOS Disk.

  2. Boot your computer and set your BIOS to boot to a floppy disk first. Save the setting, insert your Data Lifeguard Tools 11 for DOS (CD) disk into your disk drive, and continue to boot your computer to the disk.

  3. Click on I Agree to accept the License Agreement.

  4. Click on the Maintenance Options button.

  5. If Dynamic Drive Overlay is installed on your hard drive you will have the option to select Remove Dynamic Drive Overlay (DDO).

  6. Select that option and click Next.

  7. You will be given instructions to set your BIOS to support the drive and backup your data before proceeding.

  8. Click Next to continue on to the next screen.

  9. Highlight the drive you wish to remove Dynamic Drive Overlay from and click on Next.

  10. Click on Done.
