Description
A My Book Live or My Book Live Duo Storage device is unable to enter sleep mode after being left alone for more than 20 minutes.
This issue occurs when an application or a service is still interacting with the drive. For assistance determining what might be interacting with the drive, please follow the instructions below:
- Verify that there are no automatic or continuous backup applications (such as WD SmartWare, Time Machine, or Windows Backup).
- If the drive has recently had a large number of media files such as photos, music and movies copied on to it, the Media Server may be running in the background to index them so they can be shared using the built-in DLNA.
- Make sure that the drive is not being accessed using a mobile app.
- Make sure no files saved on the drive are currently being read. For example, a file opened with Microsoft Word may auto-save which would keep the drive from entering sleep mode.
Resolution
Stop any applications or services that are accessing the drive.
