Use of this software requires download and installation to a system connected to at least one of the compatible Western Digital (WD, SanDisk, G-Technology) storage products. When using with the My Cloud NAS products, the software must be running from an operating system on the same local network.

Acronis True Image for Western Digital will only backup files and folders physically stored on the local drive. It will not backup or pull data hosted remotely in Cloud Services such as Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, OneDrive.


In order to restore a WD Backup job on a different computer, please follow the instructions below:

IMPORTANT: Please make sure the WD Backup Setup screen is not closed and Back up Files is not clicked. If the WD Backup Setup screen is closed or Backup Files is started on the new computer, the original computer backups will not be visible in WD Backup.

WD backup restore from another computer must be done during the initial set up wizard. If the WD Backup software is already installed then WD Backup must be uninstalled. When uninstalling please delete the C:\Users\[Customer User Account]\AppData\Roaming\Western Digital\WD Backup\ index file.

  1. Make sure the drive is connected to the computer

  2. Download and install WD Backup on the new computer

  3. Image


  4. Choose Restore Files

  5. Image


  6. Select the drive or cloud service to restore from and click Next

  7. Image


  8. Select the location on the new computer to restore the files from the original computer and click Select Files to Restore

  9. Image


    • The restore option Original Location can only be selected on the original computer the backup job was created
    • When selecting the restore option Select Location, click on Browse to change the destination

  10. Choose the date to view files from, select the folders that need to be restored, and click Restore

  12. The progress bar will display the restore's progress

  14. Once the restore is complete, click Close
