My Passport Wireless mobile app for iOS and Android is now in the Limited Updates phase. During this phase, bug fixes, updates for new features, and OS compatibility patches may stop, but Western Digital will continue to provide security updates for the app to address critical issues.

The My Passport Wireless contains a rechargeable, non-user replaceable lithium-ion battery within it. The life of the battery depends on the model, usage conditions, and configurations of the product. Using the unit outside of its operating parameters can degrade battery performance over time.

  • Ambient Operating Temperature: Ambient Operating Temperature is defined as the physical environment, or the location of the device.
  • Operating Temperature: Operating Temperature is when the device is in Direct Attached (DA) mode, Networked Attached Storage (NAS) mode, or Charging mode.
  • Non-Operating Temperature: Non-Operating Temperature is when the device is powered off and not connected to any device.

Below are some Battery and Performance recommendations to get the best experience out of the My Passport Wireless device.

  1. Upgrade the firmware of the My Passport Wireless device to the latest version.
    • Download the latest firmware version by Clicking Here.
        1. Download the firmware to your desktop
        2. Unzip the file and you will find the actual firmware in this format: MyPassportWireless_x.bin
        3. Save this to your desktop
        4. Connect to the My Passport Wireless using Wi-Fi
        5. Open the My Cloud Dashboard UI
        6. Go to Firmware Tab
        7. Under the section Manual Update, click the Update From File button and a window will open
        8. Browse to where you saved the MyPassportWireless_x.bin file and select it
        9. You will see a pop up confirming to upgrade your firmware, click Ok

  2. Keep the My Passport Wireless within Operating Temperature range.
    • The Operating Temperature for the unit is 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F).
    • The Non-Operating Temperature of the unit is -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F).
    • The Operating humidity for the unit is 10%-80% (non-condensing).
    • The Non-Operating humidity for the unit is 5%-90%.
    • The battery operates best with a ambient operating temperature between 5° to 20°C.

  3. Do not expose the My Passport Wireless to temperature outside of its operating ranges.
    • The device should not operate at temperatures above the 35°C ambient operating temperature.
    • Do not expose the device to water, heat, or fire. Avoid direct sunlight on the device.

  4. Do not over-charge the My Passport Wireless.
    • Use only the charger that comes with the product.
    • Do not leave the battery in charging mode for extended periods. The battery capacity may temporarily be reduced to protect its long-term reliability.
    • Allow the battery to discharge.
    • Elevated temperatures will result in longer charging times and battery capacity may temporarily be reduced to protect its long-term reliability.

  5. Do not under-charge the My Passport Wireless.
    • Avoid completely discharging the device when possible.
    • Recharge the battery after 2.5 months of non-operating storage (unit unplugged).
