An External Drive Spins Down, Goes to Sleep, Standby Mode, After Several Minutes of No Activity

External portable and desktop hard drives will spin down after 10 minutes of no inactivity.
This is called, sleep, standby or power saver mode.
Access the drive will wake it up.

Higher capacity drives take more power and time to spin up.

WD Drive Utilities Sleep Timer can be on supported external drives.
