My Passport Wireless Pro & SSD: Setup and Configure Using the Mobile App

My Passport Wireless mobile app for iOS and Android is now in the Limited Updates phase. During this phase, bug fixes, updates for new features, and OS compatibility patches may stop, but Western Digital will continue to provide security updates for the app to address critical issues.

Follow the instructions to configure and setup a My Passport Pro or SSD using the mobile app.


  1. Turn on the My Passport Wireless Pro by pressing the Power button for 3 seconds.
    Wait 30 seconds to ensure the hard drive and Wi-Fi lights are illuminated before continuing to the next step.

  2. Download the My Passport Wireless mobile app from Google Play or the Apple App store.
  3. Open the wireless preferences on a mobile device and connect to the My Passport (5 GHz) wireless signal for the best performance.
    Both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands are enabled by default. Some mobile devices may only display the 2.4 GHz band.

  4. Enter the unique default Wi-Fi password located on the device label and tap Join.

  5. Tap View license agreement.

  6. Read the license agreement
    Tap Agree to accept and continue.

  7. Allow analytics click the ALLOW or the DON'T ALLOW button.

  8. Tap the My Passport Wireless image.

  9. Tap the Continue.
    • Wirelessly view photos and steam videos
    • Open files with other apps
    • Manage drive and app settings

    • Automatic Detection: The application will automatically detect the My Passport Wireless and display the message Searching for WD MY Passport Wireless . If the My Passport Wireless is detected, please continue with Step #10.


      Not Detected: If the My Passport Wireless Pro is not detected, The message will be displayed:
      1. Make sure your My Passport Wireless is powered on and go to your mobile device's Wi-Fi settings.
      2. Join the My Passport Wireless network.
      3. Return to the My Passport Wireless app.

      4. IMPORTANT:
        • Connecting the My Passport Wireless Pro using the mobile app supports Local Area Network (LAN) only.
        • Remote or Cloud Access is not supported.

  10. Tap OK to configure the automatic camera backup.
    Tap Not now to complete the setup and skip the auto camera backup setup process and complete the setup.

  11. Tap Auto back up to Storage.

    The auto camera backup will start immediately and may take some time to complete. A new backup folder will be created based on the name of the mobile device such as: Samsung SM-G955U or Samuel iPhone 13 Pro depending on the name and model of the phone.
