Plex Media Server helps Users organize all media under one single interface. This allows for the media to be streamed from a My Cloud or a My Passport Wireless Pro device to other devices, such as PC and Mac computers, mobile devices, or even Smart TVs. Using Plex on a My Cloud device
- Copy or Move content into the My Cloud device
The Media Database will generate thumbnails and index content with Cloud Services enabled on the device. - Turn Twonky DLNA Media Streaming Service OFF. Plex will be used instead:
- Login to the My Cloud Dashboard. For assistance accessing the Dashboard, please see Answer ID 27432: How to Access the Dashboard on a My Cloud Device
- Once inside the Dashboard, click on Settings
- Click on Media on the left-side panel
- Set DLNA Media Streaming to OFF
- Install and create Plex Media Server Libraries. For assistance installing Plex, please see Answer ID 21015: Installing and using the Plex app on a My Cloud device IMPORTANT: Disable Plex DLNA. This can be done in Settings - Server - DLNA. Allow Plex Libraries to complete the indexing process and for internet content to download before streaming through Plex Media Server.
- Optimize Plex Content to get the best use and experience of the My Cloud and Plex
- For best playback experience, download and install the Plex Media Client app on the system to which Plex Media will be streamed
Using Plex on a My Passport Wireless Pro device
- My Passport Wireless Pro is formatted with exFAT files system so that it is read and writable by both Windows and macOS. Reformating to NTFS (Windows) or HSF+ (MacOS) before adding content can result in better file system resiliency.

- Install and then Turn OFF Plex. Twonky will be disabled when Plex is installed.
- Allow My Passport Wireless Pro to complete the content scan and thumbnail generation of added content BEFORE turning on Plex and creating a library.
- For best performance when using Plex Media Server, make sure that the My Passport Wireless Pro is plugged into a power outlet when being used.
- Use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band for best streaming results. For more information, please see Answer ID 8421: My Passport Wireless Pro & SSD: Wi-Fi Best Practices
- Install and create Plex Media Server Libraries. For assistance installing Plex, please see Answer ID 19160: My Passport Wireless Pro & SSD: Installing and configuring Plex Media Server IMPORTANT: Disable Plex DLNA. This can be done in Settings - Server - DLNA. Allow Plex Libraries to complete the indexing process and for internet content to download before streaming through Plex Media Server.
