Description


A Serial ATA hard drive is seen as a SCSI device in Device Manager.

  • Windows will assign drivers when a SATA drive is plugged into the computer.
    It will pick drivers that are similar if it is not sure which to use.
    Windows may assign SCSI drivers since SATA is similar to SCSI, .

  • The Serial ATA controller's bus design is taken from a SCSI HBA.
    Many makers that build Serial ATA controllers also make SCSI ones.

  • The SATA drive is plugged into a RAID controller.
    RAID and SCSI controllers have the same device designation in Windows.
    A SATA drive can be seen as a SCSI device.
