Description


Data transfer to and from a Private Share is slow when using macOS 10.11.5 and higher.
This happens when macOS SMB2 Signing is turned on. (default=on)
SMB2 Signing allows more secure sign ins.


Resolution


Turn off SMB2 Signing.

STOP Critical:

Turning off SMB Signing is a security risk.
Check with a third-party IT Security company or network admin for help.
Western Digital does not provide security analysis and cannot recommend a third-party security company.


  1. Click the Spyglass Icon.

  2. Type Terminal.
    Press Enter.

  3. Copy and Paste these commands one at a time.
    Press the enter key on the keyboard after each one.

    echo "[default]" > nsmb.conf
    echo "signing_required=no" >> nsmb.conf
    sudo cp nsmb.conf /etc/

  4. Click the arrow icon in Finder to Unmount the share(s).

  5. Mount the share(s) again.
