Connecting a USB Drive to a My Cloud Renders the My Cloud Unresponsive


IMPORTANT:

Please ensure that your My Cloud product firmware is up to date.

Description


The My Cloud Dashboard is slow to respond after connecting an external USB drive.
Samba (SMB), AFP, MyCloud.com and the My Cloud mobile apps continue to function.
Attaching an external USB drive to a My Cloud will trigger a media scan of the if Cloud Service (remote access) is enabled.

Resolution


To turn off the media scan, please follow the steps below:


  1. Log in to the Dashboard of the My Cloud .

  2. Safely eject the USB drive from the My Cloud in the Dashboard

    • Click the USB icon
    • Click the eject icon

  3. Turn Off Cloud Service in the Dashboard

    • Click the Settings
    • Click General
    • Click the ON/OFF slider for Cloud Service

      Disabling Cloud Access will prevent users from accessing the My Cloud remotely through MyCloud.com or the My Cloud mobile app.

  4. Turn Off USB Content Availability
    To turn off USB Content Availability, please refer to Answer ID 17191 My Cloud USB Content Availability

  5. Turn Off the DLNA Media Server and iTunes in the Dashboard

    • Click Settings
    • Click Media
    • Click the ON/OFF slider for both Media Streaming and iTunes

  6. Restart the My Cloud device

    The options may vary depending on the My Cloud device.
    • Click Reboot on the My Cloud Dashboard.

  7. When the power LED is solid Blue, connect the external USB drive.
