My Cloud SNMP Support
My Cloud supports SNMP to allow Management Software to query and monitor the status and health of a My Cloud device.
My Cloud SNMP Features
- Supports SNMP Notifications
- SNMP v2c and v3 is supported
- SNMP listens by default on UDP port 161
- MIB table download and query is supported from the dashboard and support.wdc.com
- MIB table customization and modification is not supported
- SNMP Service will stop and not start if the My Cloud is in Relay Mode

- SNMP is not supported on My Cloud Mirror or Mirror Gen2
Enable and Configure SNMP:
- Log in to the My Cloud Dashboard.
For instructions, please refer to Answer ID 27432: How to Access the Dashboard on a My Cloud Device - Click Settings
- Click Network
- Enable SNMP by selecting All, v2c or v3
- Enter the appropriate SNMP information for the network environment.
If unsure of the required settings, please contact the Network Administrator.
- Click Apply
Download My Cloud Management Information Base (MiB) File
The MIB for each My Cloud define what can be queried from SNMP Management Software and are unique per My Cloud model.
The My Cloud MIB file can be downloaded from the within the dashboard of the My Cloud or support.wdc.com
Dashboard Instructions
- Log in to the My Cloud Dashboard.
For instructions, please refer to Answer ID 27432: How to Access the Dashboard on a My Cloud Device - Click Settings
- Click Network
- Click Download
IMPORTANT:
The Download button will appear in the dashboard is the SNMP service has been enabled
- Click OK

- Double Click the My Cloud icon.
- Double Click a SNMP supported My Cloud model of choice.
- Click Downloads
- Click Management Information Base (MiB)
- Click Download
- In your Web Browser:
- Click File
- Click Save Page As

Load My Cloud MIB Table
A third part MIB Browser can be used to query and load a My Cloud MIB table that has been downloaded to the local computer.
- Download and install or use a MIB Browser of your choice.
- In a MIB Browser:
- Click File
- Click Load MIB
- Navigate and Select the downloaded My Cloud MIB file
- Navigate to the MIB of the My Cloud and select an entry for more details.
In the examples below, iReasoning MIB Browser Personal Edition for Windows is used. |
SNMPWALK
snmpwalk can be used to query and detect a set of variables that are available for query and monitoring on a My Cloud.
3rd Party Software:
Command Line (Putty or Linux Console) Example
The following command will retrieve all the information known to an SNMP agent and pause the screen output using the "more" command.
snmpwalk -v 2c -c public IP_ADDRESS .iso | more
Troubleshooting SNMP
The SNMP service on My Cloud is either enabled or disabled on UDP port 161.
To verify the snmpd service is running on a My Cloud device, follow the steps below:
1. Enable SSH and access the My Cloud
For options and instructions, please refer to Answer ID 26497: How to Access WD My Cloud Using SSH (Secure Shell)
2. Run the following command in the SSH console, which should list the snmpd process on UDP port 161.
netstat -tulpn | grep snmp
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:161 0.0.0.0:* 4355/snmpd
3. Run the following command in the SSH console, which should list the snmpd process as well.
ps -aux | grep snmp
10887 root 54968 S snmpd -C -c /etc/snmpd.conf
4. If the processes are not running
- Login to the My Cloud Dashboard
- Go To Settings -> Network
- Turn OFF SNMP
- Reboot My Cloud from the Dashboard UI (DO NOT "reboot" FROM THE SSH CONSOLE)
- Login to the My Cloud Dashboard
- Go To Settings -> Network
- Turn ON SNMP
- Log In via SSH and check the processes again
If the SNMP management software still cannot see the My Cloud device, check the networking firewall equipment or contact the Network Administrator for assistance.
If the snmpd process is not started and the SNMP option is enabled on the dashboard, please see Answer ID 18198 SNMP Fails to Start When a My Coud is in Relay Mode
