Resolving a Full C:\ Drive on a DX4000 or RX4100

Description

The Boot (C:\) drive on a WD Sentinel DX4000 or RX4100 device becomes full and Windows Disk Cleanup does not resolve the issue.

There are a few temporary folders used for Windows updates that will accumulate files over time.
The data in these folders can be safely deleted.

Location of the folders on the C:\ drive of the WD Sentinels are:
  • C:\Windows\Temp
  • C:\Windows\Logs\CBS
  • C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Resolution

Delete the contents of the folder.

DO NOT delete the folder itself, only delete the contents inside of the folder.

  1. Open Remote Desktop connection and use the IP Address, or name assigned to the WD Sentinel in the computer location field.
  2. Use the WD Sentinel Administrator login credentials to access unit.
  3. Go to the C:\Windows folder.

    • Go into the C:\Windows\Temp folder
    • Select all files inside the folder and use the SHIFT and DELETE keys at the same time to permanently delete the files rather than sending them to the recycle bin.

    • Go into the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder
    • Select all files inside the folder and use the SHIFT and DELETE keys at the same time to permanently delete the files rather than sending them to the recycle bin.

    • Go into the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder
    • Select all files inside the folder and use the SHIFT and DELETE keys at the same time to permanently delete the files rather than sending them to the recycle bin.

  4. Verify available space on the C:\ drive.

If the steps above did not resolve the issue, and there is still no available space on the (C:\) drive, please verfy that your data is located on the the (D:\) drive of the WD Sentinel.
