Description

My Passport Wireless Pro SD Card Import saves content in an incorrect folder or duplicate content in the same folder.

The issue can occur when a camera formats an SD Card using the same attributes after content has already been imported into My Passport Wireless Pro. In this case, the SD Cards UUID is only Updated and Not Erased by the camera.

Scenario: UUID is Only Updated (Not Erased) by the Camera Scenario

  • SD Card is formatted by the camera using the default file name setting
  • Pictures and videos are taken by the camera onto the SD Card
  • Content on the SD Card is imported into My Passport Wireless Pro
  • SD Card is then reformatted by the camera using the same default file name setting

Since the UUID is only updated and Not Erased the SD Card will have the exact same UUID which causes the new content file names to be identical to the previous import resulting in duplicate file names and incorrect folder imports.

Resolution

  1. When formatting an SD Cards used with the My Passport Wireless Pro SD Card import feature, ensure the SD Card UUID is Erased and not simply Updated by the camera. When the UUID is Erased, the SD Card import feature will use the date and timestamp for data backups.

    IMPORTANT:

WD does not provide support for camera settings and or features.
Please refer to you camera's user guide or contact the vendor directly for support.

  2. If the camera does not support SD Card UUID Erase, an alternate solution is to manually move the imported content to another directory on the drive or rename the existing directory.
