Description

The DS5100 fails to boot to the Operating System (OS).
Possible causes for the unit to fail to boot can be:
  • The OS drive has come loose from its mount after being transported from one location to another
  • The OS hard drive has failed
  • The OS has become corrupt

Resolution

Loose boot drive

To verify if the OS boot drive has become loose, follow the steps to check the drive's physical connectivity.
  1. Power off the DS5100 and unplug the power and Ethernet cables from the back of the DS5100

  2. Unplug any connected USB drives from the back of the DS5100 as well

  3. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws from the back of the DS5100

  4. Slide the cover off the DS5100 by pulling backwards away from the front of the unit

  5. Check on the side of the unit to make sure the mounting bracket that holds the 2-1/2” OS drive has not come loose

  6. Reassemble the DS5100 by reversing the previous steps

  7. Reboot the DS5100 see if it will boot up

Failed boot drive or corrupt OS

If the DS5100 still fails to boot, then the drive itself may have failed or the OS on the drive may have become corrupt.

In either case, the drive will need to be replaced as there is no software recovery ISO available.

STOP Critical:
Since this is the boot drive (C:/), user data is usually contained on the data volume (D:/). If there is any needed data on the boot (C:/) drive that is not backed up in another location, you would need to contact a data recovery company to recover that data.

To replace the OS drive, please contact Technical Suppor by clicking Contact Us for assistance in getting a replacement drive with a pre-installed OS.

After the drive is replaced in the unit, you will have to go through the initial setup procedure again.
This will not affect the content on the data volume (D:/) drive.
