Third-Party NAS Enclosure Drive Failed or Error Message with WD Red Drives


Description


Third-party NAS enclosure may display a Bad Sectors, Failed, or Dad Drive message in the User Interface (UI).
This message can be caused by:

  • NAS enclosure issue.
  • Failed drive.

Western Digital Support cannot help with third-party software or hardware.

Drive Compatibility

Make sure the drives are compatible with the enclosure.
Check the vendors drive compatibility list.



Test Drives for Errors

  1. Backup the data to another drive.

  2. Power Off the NAS.

  3. Remove the drives from the NAS.
    Make a note of which drive came from which drive bay.
  4. Connect the drives to Windows or macOS with a SATA cable.

  5. Test the drives for errors.

    Drive Test OK?
    Contact the NAS vendor for support and help.

    Drive Test NOT OK?
    Replace the drive if in Warranty.
