My Cloud: FTP Connection Failure

Description


FTP connection to a My Cloud fails when using 3rd party software.


Most 3rd party File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software default to Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) and are unable to connect to a My Cloud. SFTP is not supported by a My Cloud.

Please select one of the options below to connect to a My Cloud using FTP or SFTP.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

  1. Ensure FTP is enabled on the My Cloud
    To enable FTP on a My Cloud, please refer to Answer ID 16528 How to configure FTP access on a My Cloud

  2. Configure 3rd party software to use FTP connections
    Western Digital does not provide installation, configuration or support for 3rd party software


Secure Copy Protocol (SCP)

SCP utilizes SSH (port 22) and can be used to access, copy and transfer content securely to a My Cloud.

  1. Enable SSH and log into the device
    For assistance enabling SSH, For instructions, please refer to Answer ID 26497: How to Access WD My Cloud Using SSH (Secure Shell)

  2. Download and install a software that supports SCP such as FileZilla or WinSCP and connect to the WD My Cloud using:

    My Cloud IP Address:
    SSH User name: sshd
    SSH User password:
    Port: 22
