My Book and My Book Duo 6 TB and Higher Capacities Not Detected or Cannot be Accessed on Windows or macOS



Description


The USB Port of the computer may not provide enough power to wake or spin up higher capacity drives from stanby or sleep mode.


Resolution


  1. Safely Eject the drive.

  2. Power OFF the computer.

  3. Remove the My Book USB cable from the computer.

  4. Remove the My Book power cable from the power adapter.

  5. Power ON the computer.

  6. Sign In the computer.

  7. Download and install WD Discovery.
    It includes WD Drive Utilities.

  8. Connect the My Book power cable to a power source.

  9. Connect the My Book USB cable directly to the computer.
    Do Not use a USB Hub

  10. Open WD Discovery
    Unlock the drive if it has a password.
