Description
A Degraded or Disk Error notification comes from the My Cloud Home mobile app.
The drive has hardware issues or bad sectors that can cause data loss.
Resolution
Backup Data
Back up the data on the My Cloud Home to another location.

Replace Degraded Drives
New and replacement drives MUST follow these guidelines.
- Drives must not contain any format or content.
- The new drive must be of the same type, model, and storage capacity.
- Storage capacity cannot be upgraded in the field.

Single Drive Replacement
This process will ocurr when a single drive is replaced.
- LED will blink and device will be offline.
This process can take up to 48 hours or more. - LED Status will be solid white when the single volume is mounted.
Two Drive Replacement
This process will ocurr when both drives are replaced.
- Drives are setup in RAID 1.

Remove The Failed Drive(s)
- Open the top lid from the rear edge with the drive access tool.
- The hard drives are labeled with numbers.
- Looking at the unit from the front, Disk 1 is on the left and Disk 2 is on the right.
- Each hard drive is in place by an attached tray with a plastic latch.
- Press down on the plastic latch to unhook the drive from the metal frame of the device.
- Grab the plastic tray and gently pull while pressing down on the latch.
- The tray and hard drive will lift up and slide out.
- Remove the plastic tray from the hard drive once the hard drive is removed from the unit,.
- The tray is attached to the hard drive with four pins.
- Gently flex the tray so that the pins come out of the sides of the hard drive.
- Remove and save the tray.
- Do not return a hard drive to WD with the tray.
The tray will not be returned.
Add The Replacement Drive(s)
- Attach the plastic tray to the hard drive.
- The plastic tray fits on the circuit board side of the hard drive.
- The end of the tray that is closed and has the latch must be on the side of the hard drive with the serial number barcode label.
- Flex the plastic tray so the tiny pins on the insides of the tray go into the four holes on the sides of the hard drive.
- Make sure the pins remain firmly connected to the tray.
- Slide the hard drives into the device.
- The side of the hard drive with the SATA connector and power connector must point down into the unit.
- The side of the hard drive with the small serial number barcode label must face up.
- The drive is inserted once the plastic latch connects or latches into the metal chassis of the unit.
- Re-attach the top lid.
- One end has curved hinges that go in first.
Press down on the other side of the lid until it is flush with the top of the device. - Connect the unit to a power outlet and power on the device.
- Wait for the LED to become a solid white.
