My Passport Wireless Pro & SSD: Does Not Detect or Import USB or SD Card Content

My Passport Wireless mobile app for iOS and Android is now in the Limited Updates phase. During this phase, bug fixes, updates for new features, and OS compatibility patches may stop, but Western Digital will continue to provide security updates for the app to address critical issues.

My Passport Wireless Pro does not recognize the SD Card or does not import the contents of the SD Card.


The SD Card product or contents may not be supported on My Passport Wireless Pro.


Resolution


IMPORTANT: Attempt SD card imports from the Mobile App menu.
Ensure the Android My Passport Wireless Mobile App is updated to the latest version.
  1. Ensure the firmware up to date with the latest release.

  2. For devices in the UTC+13 and UTC+14 Time Zones (New Zealand, Kiribati, Samoa, and Tonga), please refer to Answer ID 20806 FAT/FAT32 Formatted SD/USB Device Not Detected on My Passport Wireless Pro and SSD

  3. Open the Dashboard of the My Passport Wireless using your Android mobile device.

    • Ensure the Android device is connected to the internet or the carrier network
    • Open a Web Browser on the Android device
    • Enter http://mypassport.local
    • The SD Card or USB import should start

  4. Insert the SD Card into the SD Card Reader before connecting the SD Card Reader to the My Passport Wireless device.

  5. Connect the My Passport Wireless Device to the Internet If available using the mobile app.

    • Locate My Passport Wireless in the mobile app
    • Tap the Gear Icon
    • Tap Settings
    • Tap WiFi
    • Tap Connect to Internet
    • Select a Connection and sign in
    • Open the dashboard in a Web Browser at http://mypassport.local
    • The SD Card or USB import should start

  6. Disable Twonky and or Plex Media Server on the Media tab.

  7. Check the SD Card for a dirty volume by inserting into a Windows or macOS computer.
    You will be prompt to scan and fix the drive if the volume is dirty.

  8. Format SD Cards using NTFS or HSF+ which are more resilent file systems and less prone to dirty volume of file system corruption than FAT or exFAT.

  9. Ensure to always Safely Eject SD Cards and USB Drives before removing.

  10. Ensure the CD Card and Adapter are securely seated.
    Wait 3 to 5 minutes for the SD Card to mount before attempting to view and access the content.

  12. If the SD product is or isn't listed as being compatible with My Passport Wireless Pro,
    Please Contact Western Digital Technical Support with the following information:

    • Camera: Make, model and firmware version
    • SD Card or Reader: Make, model and part number
    • SD Card Capacity and picture of the product label
    • SD Card Format ( FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, HSF+ or other)
    • Product or Operating system used to format the SD Card (IE: Windows 10, macOS Sierra 10.12, Camera Formatted)
    • SD Card Content (pictures, movies, RAW Images, etc...)
    • My Passport Wireless Pro system logs with the SD Card, Reader or product connected to the unit
