IMPORTANT:

The My Cloud Home Public Share is designed and implemented for Windows File Backup. It is not designed for local LAN storage access. Although is can be accessed on Windows and macOS, it was not designed to be used as local LAN storage. Please use WD Discovery and the User Private Space for your My Cloud Home content storage needs.

For more information regarding using the Private Space and setting up local network access, please refer to Answer ID 34991: How to Enable Local Network Access to Data on My Cloud Home Using the Dashboard with Cloud Services.

Description

A Smart TV, Printer, or Media Player prompts for a username and password when connecting to My Cloud Home on the network. SMBv1 and NTLMv1 are not supported protocols when connecting to My Cloud Home.

  • SMBv1 has known security risks and may leave data on the device vulnerable to unauthorized access.
  • Network devices must support Samba SMBv2 or SMBv3 to connect to My Cloud Home.

My Cloud Home firmware 8.12 and higher provides stronger security by only allowing SMBv2, SMBv3 and NTLMv2 protocols. This may result in previously connected network devices prompting for a username and password to access network resources.

Resolution

Please consult with the manufacturer of any Smart TV, Printer or Media Player to ensure that the latest drivers are installed and are configured to support, at minimum, SMBv2 and NTLMv2 protocols.
