My Passport Wireless mobile app for iOS and Android is now in the Limited Updates phase. During this phase, bug fixes, updates for new features, and OS compatibility patches may stop, but Western Digital will continue to provide security updates for the app to address critical issues.

My Passport Wireless Pro does not charge or go above 5% charge.


My Passport Wireless Pro may not charge under the following conditions.

  • OEM 12 Watt 5 Volt 2.4 Amp power adapter not being used
  • Power adapter prongs not connected to an efficient supply of power
  • External USB device attached to the USB port
  • Constant disk read or write activity
  • Plex Media Server indexing content

Resolution


Hardware Solution

  1. The unit will not charge during periods of disk read or write activity.
  2. My Passport Wireless Pro ships with a 12 Watt 5 Volt 2.4 Amp power adapter.
    The OEM power adapter and USB cable should be used when charging the unit.
  3. Ensure the power adapter prongs are securely inserted into an efficient suppy of power.
    Use the wall outlet whenever possible instead of a power strip.
  4. Disconnect any and all external USB devices
  5. Power OFF the My Passport Wireless Pro when charging


Plex and DLNA Media Server Solution

  1. Login to the device dashboard
  2. Click the Media Tab
  3. Disable Plex and or DLNA Media Server (whichever is running)
  4. Power OFF the device
  5. Connect to a power outlet and let charge for 4 to 5 hours
