WD My Passport (Game Storage) Online User Guide
PS4™ supports USB 3.0 external hard drives for use as Extended Storage
- Only one My Passport Game Storage USB device can be used for extended storage at a time
- Even if another My Passport Game Storage is connected with two devices that are formatted for use as extended storage, only one can be active as extended storage
- A second My Passport Game Storage can be connected for use with Media Player, as long as the file system is kept to default exFAT
- Connection via a USB hub is not supported. You’ll need to connect the extended storage device directly to your PS4™ system
- Application saved data, themes or screenshot/video clips cannot be saved to Passport Games Storage formatted as Extended Storage

Critical:
The process is Data Destructive and cannot be undone.
ALL THE DATA ON THE DRIVE WILL BE LOST!- From the PS4 home Screen press the Left Stick up arrow on the PS4® Dual Shock Remote, and go to Settings click the X button on the remote
- Click the Left Stick Down on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote, and go to Devices click X button on the remote
- Click the Left Stick Down on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote, select the USB Storage Devices, click the X on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote
- Choose the Passport Game Storage, by pressing X on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote
- Choose Format as Extended Storage by clicking X button on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote
- A message will dislplay: you can install application in Extended storage. However, saved data, screenshots and video clips will be saved in system storage use the PS4 Dual Shock Remote and click the X button
- A Message will display: This Device will be formatted as extended storage. When you format this device data on it will be deleted click the Format button
- A message will display: This device will be formatted as extended storage. Are you sure you want to continue? Ensure that any data on the drive is backed up to another physical device
- A message will display shorty:
This device has been formatted as extended storage
Applications will now be installed in extended storage
- Press the X button the PS4 dual Shock Remote
- The WD USB 3.0 drive will have a Green light on the display indicating the drive is now ready for use as Extended Storage by the PS4Click the O on the PS4 dual Shock Remote
- The default location to store games will now be the Passport Game Storage, and new games downloaded will now be installed on the Passport Game System
How to Move Games from the PS4 system to the Passport Game Storage formatted as Extended Storage
- From the PS4 home Screen press the Left Stick up arrow on the PS4® Dual Shock Remote, and go to Settings click the X button on the remote
- Click the Left Stick Down on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote, and go to Storage click X button on the remote
- From the PS4 home Screen press the Left Stick up arrow on the PS4® Dual Shock Remote, to System click the X on the remote
- Choose Applicationson the PS4® Dual Shock Remote click X
- Some games can be moved to the Storage by clicking by choosing the game and clicking X on the Remote.
- All games,can be moved from the PS4 System to the Passport Game Storage by clicking the Select All button
- Chose a game Click the X button on the PS4® Dual Shock Remote
- Choose Move button
- A message will display the selected application will be moved to Extended Storage
click the X button on the remote - A Moving Message will display
- On the Home screen the games will still look the same
How to Safely eject an external hard drive from a PS4
Unplugging an external USB 3.0 hard drive without Safely Removing from PS4 may cause corruption or loss of data.
There are two methods to safely remove an external USB 3.0 hard drive from a PS4 outlined below
From the Quick Menu
- Press and hold the PS button on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote till the Quick Menu is displayed
- Choose Sound/Devices scroll down, Stop Using Extended Storage
- A message will display: you have stopped using the extended storage device. You can safely disconnect the Passport Game Storageclick OK by pressing theX button on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote
- Unplug the passport Game Storage
Another Method to Safely Remove a external USB 3.0 hard drive from the PS4 is from the Storage Settings
- From the PS4 home Screen press the Left Stick up arrow on the PS4® Dual Shock Remote, and go to Settings click the X button on the remote
- Press the Left stick down,and scroll down to Devices
- click the X button on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote
- Scrol down to USB Storage Devices, click X on the PS4 Dual Shock Remote
- Click the X, to enter the Passport Game Storage, and Choose Stop Using this device
- A message will display: you have stopped using the extended storage device. You can safely disconnect it.
click OK by pressing theX button on the PS4® Dual Shock Remote - Unplug the Passport Game Storage from the PS4
- Press O button to go back to the Home Screen
WD My Passport Game Storage Troubleshooting
- USB Cables Obtaining a high quality replacement or trying a different (longer or shorter) USB cable may resolve your issue.
- USB Port Power and Dual Powered USB Cable If an alternate computer can see and access the drive, the primary or other computers USB port may not provide enough power for the external drive.
