My Cloud Home Private User Space and Public Share Access

My Cloud Home Data Access Options


  • Private User Space
  • Content added to the Private User Space is only accessible using, the My Cloud Home mobile app for Android or iOS and the WD Discovery Login Desktop App.
    Private User space cannot be accessed by:

    • Windows Networking
    • macOS Finder

    Accessing the Private User Space from Windows or macOS as a mounted ( mapped ) network drive must be accomplished using WD Discovery Desktop App for My Cloud Home.

  • Local Area Network Share (LAN)
  • Content added to the Local Area Network Shares (Public and TimeMachineBackup) cannot be accessed or seen using the:

    • - Web App
    • My Cloud Home - Mobile App for Android or iOS
    • WD Discovery - Login Desktop App

    The My Cloud Home public share can be accessed on macOS computers using Samba (SMB)

    * Where XXXXXX is the last 6 digits of the My Cloud Home seriel number
    smb://guest:guest@<IP ADDRESS>/Public

    IMPORTANT Important:

    The My Cloud Home Public Share is designed and implemented for Windows File Backup. It is not designed for local LAN storage access. Although is can be accessed on Windows and macOS, it was not designed to be used as local LAN storage. Please use WD Discovery and the User Private Space for your My Cloud Home content storage needs.
