Steps to Uninstall and Remove WD Discovery on Windows and macOS


WD Discovery helps to manage external drives like My Passport, My Book, My Book Duo, WD Elements, WD Backup Drive, WD easystore and others.


Windows

 
  1. Turn on show hidden files.

  2. Safe Eject and remove all external drives.
    Open WD Discovery in the system tray.

  3. Click the Gear icon. 
    Click Quit.


     
  4. Press Control+Alt+Delete.
    Click on the Windows Task Manager


     
  5. Right-click and select End Task on all of these.

    WD Discovery
    WD Device Agent
    WD Desktop App
    WDDiscoveryMonitor
    wdsync
     
  6. Open Control Panel.
    Go to Programs.

  7. Find WD Discovery.
    Select Uninstall/Change or right click and select Uninstall/Change.


     
  8. Select Uninstall.




     
  9. Open C:\Users\USERNAME.
    Delete the .wdc folder.


     
  10. Type \AppData after the USERNAME.
    Press Enter.



     
  11. Remove these files and folders.
    • \Local\Western Digital\WD Discovery
    • \Roaming\WD Discovery
    • \Roaming\WDDesktop
    • \Roaming\Western Digital\WD Discovery
    • \Roaming\Western Digital\WDDesktop
    • Program Files\WD Desktop App
       

  12. Reboot.

Third-party software can be used instead if removing WD Discovery is not working.

 


macOS

  1. Click Go.
    Click Applications.



     
  2. Click WD Discovery > More WD Apps > Uninstallers.
    Click Uninstall WD Discovery.



     
  3. Click Uninstall


     
  4. Enter password.
    Click OK to uninstall.





  5. Hold shift, command, and period keys to view hidden files.


     
  6. Remove these files and folders.
    • /Applications/WD Discovery
    • /Library/Application Support/WD Discovery
    • /Library/Application Support/WDDesktop
    • /Library/LaunchAgents
    • Remove everything that starts with com.wdc
    • /Users/USER_NAME/.wdc
    • /Users/USER_NAME/Library/Application Support/WD Discovery
    • /Users/USER_NAME/Library/Containers/com.wdc.WDDesktop.WDDesktopFinderSync
    • /Users/USER_NAME/Library/Containers/WDDiscoveryService.Main

  7. Reboot.
