My Passport Wireless mobile app for iOS and Android is now in the Limited Updates phase. During this phase, bug fixes, updates for new features, and OS compatibility patches may stop, but Western Digital will continue to provide security updates for the app to address critical issues.

How to Install the Firmware Update: Computer

  1. Connect computer to the My Passport Wireless device Wi-Fi network.
  2. Using a web browser, open the My Passport Wireless device dashboard.
  3. Go to Firmware Tab.
  4. Under the Automatic Update section, select Check for Update.
  5. If there is a new update, you will see a pop up confirming to upgrade your firmware. Click OK.

How to Install the Firmware Update: Mobile App

  1. Connect mobile device to the My Passport Wireless device Wi-Fi network.
  2. From the App, go to the My Passport Wireless device Settings.
  3. Select Firmware
  4. Update the Firmware if an update is available

How to Manually Install the Firmware Update: Computer

  1. Download the firmware to your desktop and you will find the actual firmware in this format: MyPassportWirelessGen2_x.bin.
  2. Connect your computer to the My Passport Wireless device Wi-Fi network.
  3. Using a web browser, open the My Passport Wireless device dashboard
  4. Go to Firmware Tab.
  5. Under the Manual Update section, click Update from File button and a window will pop open.
  6. Browse to where you saved the MyPassportWirelessGen2_x.bin file and select it.
  7. You will see a pop up confirming to upgrade your firmware. Click Ok.

How to Manually Install the Firmware Update: SD Card

  1. Download the firmware to your desktop and you will find the actual firmware in this format: MyPassportWirelessGen2_x.bin.
  2. Format the SD card in FAT-32 file system.
  3. Create a folder on the SD card named “update”.
  4. Copy the MyPassportGen2_x.bin file into the “update” folder.
  5. Turn OFF the My Passport Wireless device.
  6. Insert the SD Card.
  7. Turn ON the My Passport Wireless device.
  8. After the My Passport Wireless device boot up, the disk LED will start flashing while the update is happening.
  9. Once the update is complete, the My Passport Wireless device will automatically reboot and the LED will return to the normal ON state.

How to Enable Automatic Firmware Update: Computer

  1. Connect computer to the My Passport Wireless device Wi-Fi network
  2. Using a web browser, open the My Passport Wireless device dashboard
  3. Go to Firmware tab
  4. Under the Automatic Update section, set Auto Update to On

How to Enable Automatic Firmware Update: Mobile App

  1. Connect computer to the My Passport Wireless device Wi-Fi network
  2. From the App, go to the My Passport Wireless device Settings
  3. Select Firmware
  4. Set Auto Update to On
