Steps to Resolve macOS Disk Utility Error "MediaKit Not Enough Space on Device for Requested Operation"



Description


 
MediaKit Reports not enough space on device for requested operation. Operation Failed. when trying to format an external drive.


 
 

Resolution


Erase and format the drive.

 
STOP Critical:

The process is Data Destructive and cannot be undone.
ALL THE DATA ON THE DRIVE WILL BE LOST!

  1. Open Disk Utility.

    Need more Help?
  2. Click the Drop Down icon.
    Select Show All Devices.


  3. Click Eject on the Volume.
    The Volume will be greyed out.


  4. Select the external drive.
    Click Erase.


  5. Accept the default settings or change the Name, Format and Scheme.
    Click Erase.
