How to Access the Private User Space and Public Shares on a My Cloud Home



IMPORTANT:
  • The Public Share can be used for Windows backups.
  • The TimeMachineBackup Share can be used for macOS backups.
  • They should not be used for local file or data storage.
  • There is no Recycle Bin.


Windows Access

Samba (SMB) can be used to access the Public Share in Windows Explorer.

macOS Access

Samba (SMB) or (CIFS) can be used to access the Public Share in macOS Finder.
Use CFS if there are SMB connection errors.

SMB
smb://guest:guest@/Public
smb://guest:guest@MYCLOUD-XXXXXX/Public
* Where XXXXXX is the last 6 digits of the My Cloud Home serial number.

CIFS
cifs://guest:guest@/Public
cifs://guest:guest@MYCLOUD-XXXXXX/Public
* Where XXXXXX is the last 6 digits of the My Cloud Home serial number

Public and TimeMachineBackup Shares

Content added to the Public and TimeMachineBackup shares cannot be seen in the apps.

  • MyCloud.com (Web App)
  • My Cloud Home Mobile App (Android or iOS)


Private User Space

Content added to the Private User Space (Password Protected Share) can be seen using MyCloud.com, and the mobile app for Android or iOS. The Private User space can also be seen in Windows Explorer and macOS Finder when Local Access is turned on.
