The My Book Live and My Book Live Duo have firmware which can be updated through the Dashboard. For instructions on how to update the firmware, please select the method you would like to use in the table below:

Instructions to update the firmware using the Check for Update in the Dashboard:
To ensure that the device has the latest version, perform steps 1-3 from below. If the firmware is up to date, a message will be received indicating this to be the case. |
- From the main page of the My Book Live Duo Dashboard, click the Settings button. For assistance accessing the Dashboard please see Answer ID 11525: Access the Dashboard on WD My Book Live and My Book Live Duo.
- Click on Updates to expand the Updates Menu.
- Click the Check for Updates button.
If the device's firmware is already up to date, a message will be received saying that it is already up to date. - Read the message that appears and click the Install & Reboot button.
- Read the message that appears and click the OK button.
- The firmware will begin upgrading.
Critical:
Be sure the My Book Live Duo does not lose power during this process. - When the firmware update is complete, the My Book Live Duo will reboot.
- When it is done rebooting, the firmware will have been updated.

Instructions to update the firmware using the Check for Update option in the Dashboard:
- From the main page of the My Book Live Dashboard, click Settings.

- Click the Check for Update button.

Instructions to update the firmware manually:
- Visit the download page on our website and review the release notes.
- Click on the Download Now button.
- Carefully read and understand the contents of the page.
- Check the "I Agree" checkbox near the center of the page.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Download Firmware button to begin your download.
- Once your download has completed, access the main page of the My Book Live Dashboard and click the Settings button. For assistance accessing the Dashboard please see Answer ID 11525: Access the Dashboard on WD My Book Live and My Book Live Duo.
- Click on Updates to expand the Updates Menu.
- Click on the Update from File button.
- Select the .deb file you downloaded in Step 1, and click the Open button.
- Click the OK button.
- Wait while the file is imported and checked to ensure it is a valid firmware file.
- Continue to wait while the firmware is updated. A progress bar will fill showing your progress.
- The My Book Live will automatically reboot. When it is done the firmware will have been updated.

- Once the download has completed, access the My Book Live's Dashboard and click the Settings button. For assistance accessing the Dashboard please see Answer ID 11525: Access the Dashboard on WD My Book Live and My Book Live Duo.
- Click on Updates to expand the Updates Menu.
- Click on the Update from File button.
- Select the .deb file that was downloaded in Step 1, and click the Open button.
- Read the text that will be displayed and when done reading it, click the OK button.
- Wait while the file is imported and checked to ensure it is a valid firmware file.
- Continue to wait while the firmware is updated. A progress bar will fill showing the update's progress.
Critical:
Be sure the My Book Live Duo does not lose power during this process. - The My Book Live will automatically reboot. When it is done the firmware will have been updated.

- Download firmware version 2.11.09-053 by clicking here
- From the main page of the My Book Live Dashboard, click the Settings button. For assistance accessing the Dashboard please see Answer ID 11525: Access the Dashboard on WD My Book Live and My Book Live Duo.
- Click on Updates to expand the Updates Menu.
- Click on the Update from File button.
- Select the .deb file you downloaded in Step 1, and click the Open button.
- Click the OK button.
- Wait while the file is imported and checked to ensure it is a valid firmware file.
- Continue to wait while the firmware is updated. A progress bar will fill showing your progress.
- The My Book Live will automatically reboot. When it is done the firmware will have been updated.
- Now that the device firmware is version 2.11.09-053, Download the latest version of the firmware from our website.
- From the main page of the My Book Live Dashboard, click the Settings button. For assistance accessing the Dashboard please see Answer ID 11525: Access the Dashboard on WD My Book Live and My Book Live Duo.
- Click on Updates to expand the Updates Menu.
- Click on the Update from File button.
- Select the .deb file you downloaded in Step 1, and click the Open button.
- Click the OK button.

- Continue to wait while the firmware is updated. A progress bar will fill showing your progress.

Instructions to update the firmware using the Check for Update option in the Dashboard:
The My Book Live will not update to Software Release 2.0 or higher if scheduled updates are enabled while the drive is using Software Release 1.X. The following instructions will need to be followed in order to update the drive's firmware. |
- From the main page of the My Book Live Dashboard, click the Settings button. For assistance accessing the Dashboard please see Answer ID 11525: Access the Dashboard on WD My Book Live and My Book Live Duo.
- Click on Updates to expand the Updates Menu.
- Click the Check for Updates button.
If the device's firmware is already up to date, a message will display showing that it is already up to date. - Once the new firmware is found, Read and understand the message that appears. Scroll down to read the entire message before going on.
- Once the contents of the message have been read, check the box to acknowledge agreeing with the notice.
- Once the box has been checked, click on the Continue button.
- Read the message that appears and click the Install & Reboot button.
- The My Book Live will begin downloading and installing the update.
