The WD TV Live Hub Media Center, WD TV Live Streaming Media Player, or WD TV Media Player have firmware which can be updated either automatically or manually. To update the firmware please follow the instructions below:
- [OPTIONAL] (If your WD TV Live Hub Media Center, WD TV Live Streaming Media Player, or WD TV Media Player has access to the Internet this step is not required) Download the latest version of the firmware from the appropriate link below. Unzip the contents when the download completes to the Root Directory of a USB hard drive or flash disk
- Turn on your WD TV Live device by pressing the red Power button on the upper left hand corner of your remote.
- If you plan to do a manual update, wait until the unit has finished booting (you will be at the main menu) before connecting your USB hard drive or flash disk. If you are planning to update automatically there is no need to connect a USB device, and it is OK to skip this step.
- If you are updating using a USB drive only, you will receive a popup asking you to confirm that you would like to sync your USB drive with your passport. Highlight Cancel and press OK on your remote. If you are updating over the internet it is OK to skip this step in the instructions.
- From the main menu hit the LEFT or RIGHT arrows on your remote and locate the orange Update Firmware option in the menu. Once highlighted hit OK on the remote.
- Highlight OK and press OK on your remote.
- When you have confirmed that you want to update the firmware, your unit will inform you that it is rebooting. There is no need for any input at this time.
- The device will reboot.
- After the reboot is complete, the update will begin.
- Once the update is complete, the device will inform you that it needs to restart.
- The device will inform you that it is rebooting.
- Finally, the device will reboot.
- When the reboot is complete your drive will be updated to the latest version. To ensure your update was successful, verify that there is no orange Update Firmware option on your main menu. If the option does exist, please try following these steps again.

Firmware Ver. 3.12.13 | Firmware Ver. 2.02.32 | Firmware Ver. 1.03.07 |
If your firmware is already up-to-date you will not receive this option. The WD TV Live device will check the Root Directory of any attached USB devices, as well as the internet (if it detects it has access) for an update. If this option does not appear, and you are sure that you are running on an old firmware version, please Contact Us for additional support. |
Critical: Do not allow the WD TV to lose power, or attach/disconnect any USB devices while the update is in progress. Doing so may cause damage to your device. |
