How to Format an WD External Drive Using WD Quick Formatter on Windows

WD Quick Formatter can be used to format and remove all partitions on WD External Drive.
It will only format and create a single partition for better performance.


Support Information


External Drive Support

  • Supported WD External Drives (DAS)
  • DOES NOT support SanDisk External Drives or USB Flash.

Operating System Support

Windows

  • Windows 11 (NTFS)
  • Windows 10 32-bit & 64-bit (NTFS)


macOS
Use Disk Utility.

Instructions


STOP Critical:

The process is Data Destructive and cannot be undone.
ALL THE DATA ON THE DRIVE WILL BE LOST!


  1. Download, unzip and run WD Quick Formatter for Windows.


  2. Click Continue.

  3. Click Accept to install.

  4. Allow the scan for WD External drives to complete.

  5. Select a drive to format.
    Click Format Drive.

    STOP Critical:

    DO NOT power off or unplug the drive.
    Wait for the format process to complete.

  6. Click Exit close.
    Click Format Another Drive.

  7. Safe Eject the drive.
