Sharing Media to Access Through SMB or AFP
On a WD TV Media Player, a shared folder can be accessed by using the SMB or AFP network protocols. To configure SMB and/or AFP please follow the instructions below:
IMPORTANT:
Administrator Access may be required to perform some of these steps.
On the Mac:
- Select and Share a Folder. To do this, find the desired folder, and click on it while holding down the Control key. From the drop-down menu, click on Get Info.
- From the Info window, enable the Shared Folder option by checking the check-box next to it.
- At the bottom of the Info window, click on Sharing & Permissions to display the available users and their levels of access to shared files.
- Assign the desired privileges by clicking on a user and modifying their level of access between Read & Write, Read Only, or No Access.
- After the folder has been successfully shared, enable File Sharing. To do this, click on the Apple icon on the top-left of the screen, and select System Preferences.
- In System Preferences select Sharing.
- Once in the Sharing area, enable File Sharing by clicking on the check-box next to it. After that, select the desired folder to be shared under Shared Folders and click on Options.
- On the new window, enable SMB and AFP by clicking on the check-boxes next to Share files and folders using SMB and Share files and folders using AFP.
- Once both options are selected, click on Done.
Now both SMB and AFP have been enabled and the desired folder has been successfully shared. The WD TV Media Player will be able to connect to the Mac and access that folder's media files.
