WD Routers include the ability to Port Forward. This allows the router to create a path from a device outside your network (usually over the internet) to a specific device inside the network. For assistance configuring port forwarding on your router, please see the instructions below:
- Log in using the routers login and password. By default the login is admin and the password is password.
- Click on Advanced Settings.
- Click on Additional Features.
- In the first set of fields (Forwards) enter the name of the client (outside your network) application or device.
- Enter the External Port Range. This will be given to you by the client.
- Select the Protocol you wish to use. Unless the client specifically says to use UDP or TCP leave this set to All.
- Enter the Internal Port Range supplied by the local application (Server) and in many cases is the same as the External Port Range.
- Enter the IP address of the device you wish to create the forward to. If you do not know this address, select it from the drop down and click on the < < button.
- Check the Enabled box for the forward.
- Click Save
If you are setting up forward for a common application like FTP, you can select it from the drop-down to automatically fill in all values. |
IMPORTANT: If the device does not appear in the list, this almost always indicates that it is not detected by the router. Verify the device is properly connected and is not damaged (depending on the device, you may need to contact it's manufactuer to make this determiniation), and reload this page (you will need to repeat the steps above). If the issue persists, Contact Us for additional assistance.
