3.5" Bottom Screw Hole Depth

SAS and SATA 3.5" drives made after 2018 have a shallow bottom hole screw depth.
This allows the drive to have more platters inside.
There is no change to the side hole depth.


STOP Critical:

Screws that are too long can damage the drive.


  • Side Mount
    • max of 3mm of the total screw length inside.
    • min of 3 threads engaged.

  • Bottom Mount
    • max of 2.5mm of the total screw length inside.
    • min of 2.5 threads engaged.


2.5-inch Drive Screw and Torque Information


The drive should be mounted to the chassis using screws.

  • Size: M3
  • Qty: 4
  • Min Torque: 5 in-lb
  • Max Torque: 6 in-lb


3.5-inch Drive Screw and Torque Information

The drive should be mounted to the chassis using screws.

  • Size: 6-32
  • Qty: 4
  • Min Torque: 5 in-lb
  • Max Torque: 10 in-lb
